Young targets maiden win over Peterhead

-

East Fife manager Darren Young is determined that it will be his side that secures their first win of their League 1 season this afternoon and not visitors Peterhead, writes Craig Stewart.

Young said: “Peterhead are coming here after a very credible draw with Falkirk. From the reports I have received they did not create a lot, however they defended well and ensured that Falkirk did not create a lot either.

“They will view this game as one where they can put more pressure on their opponents, however we will look to make sure that they don’t. They will be out to get their first win but so are we.”

Young added: “We played them a couple of times just after I came in two years ago. In one game a short pass-back from Mark Docherty saw us go down 1-0 at Balmoor and then in a midweek cup-tie the two of us played experimental teams and they won that one at our place.

“This would be a great time to get my first win over Peterhead as the East Fife manager.”

Young remains disappointed that the Fifers are looking for their first league win after having to settle for a 1-1 draw at Clyde last Saturday.

The Methil boss said: “We should have won but we had to be content with getting our first point on board for the season. I thought the penalty decision against Chris Duggan for handball was very harsh and what was more annoying was that we limited Clyde to very few chances throughout the game.”

Celtic full-back Daniel Church has finally arrived on loan and Young has Danny Denholm and Kevin Smith available again after injury, however he is set to be without Chris Duggan who has picked up a knock.

Young has added 16-year-olds Josh McConville and Rory Cosgrove to his pool as he explained: “They are in the squad to face Peterhead on merit.”
