Bollan looks for win after penalty dismay
Cowdenbeath will look to bounce back from a disappointing start to their League 2 season by defeating visitors Stirling Albion this afternoon.
Gary Bollan’s side went down 3-0 at Elgin on the opening day and the Central Park manager is keen to move on despite still being irked that a vital decision went against his men at a key point in the game.
Bollan said: “Both ourselves and Stirling made disappointing starts to their league campaign last weekend. We lost a game we could have won had circumstances been different and Stirling went down at home to Queen’s Park.
“They brought in a lot of new players over the summer, and they have kept that going by signing Darryl Duffy this week, so they would have been hoping to get off to a flyer.
“Both of us will be looking to get our seasons started now. Games between us last season were tight, and I do not imagine that this one will be any different however if we get the breaks we are due then we will do OK.”
The score-line from Borough Briggs masked a decision that could have seen the game turn out very differently as Bollan explained: “In the first half when it was goalless, we should have had a penalty. Having watched the footage our disappointment at not being awarded it is even greater.
“It was a handball by their player and not even one under the new rules. It was one under the old rules and the referee knew that their player had touched it as he gave us a corner.
“If we had scored and led at half-time, as opposed to falling behind right on the whistle, the result could have been very different. Hopefully we can put that right against Stirling.”
Michael Herd is suspended after being dismissed at Borough Briggs with Fraser Mullen sitting out the second game of a two-match ban.
