Alright Sunshine makes right call

-

Alright Sunshine was a game winner of the £20,000 Glenrath Farms Archerfield Cup at Musselburgh yesterday.

Trained by Keith Dalgleish and ridden by Joe Fanning, the 11-10 favourite passed the post under the stands rail with a length and quarter back to Jaabbaar, who had raced on the fair side.

Fanning said: “He drifted that way so I was just content to let him keep on rolling. He’s still just four and a lovely prospect with a bright future. We knew he stayed well as he had wining bumper from at the track.”

An eventful day for Tim Easterby produced a success when Rux Ruxx landed the Edgen Murray Handicap under David Allan.

The Yorkshire trainer’s horsebox broke down on the A1 on the way north and his Northumberland colleague Rose Dobbin came to the rescue by ferrying his four runners to the East Lothian venue.

Red Pike, a well-backed 5-2 chance, won for the first time in four years when taking the Watermans Handicap for Graham Lee and Bryan Smart.

Ayr hosts an evening meeting today with no inspection planned despite heavy rain.

The feature race is the Scottish Sun Handicap over five furlongs at 6.55pm with Kevin Ryan’s Dandys Beano a hot favourite for the four-horse event.

Kevin Stott is back in the saddle after partnering Dandys Beano to two wins on the allweather at Newcastle.

The opening race of the sevenrace meeting, due off at 5.20pm,is the Funkin Cocktails Lady Riders’ Handicap, with all the horses being ridden by female jockeys.
