BEER: Fife firm signs up with new distributor which has UK-wide reach

St Andrews Brewing Company is eyeing future market expansion into England after signing a new deal with a nationwide distributor.

The Fife company, which has been brewing since 2012, has secured a deal with wholesaler Matthew Clark.

Bristol-headquartered Matthew Clark, which has a distribution centre in Dundee, is a leading wholesaler which supplies to more than 16,000 licensed premises.

Initially the distributor will make the firm’s core range – which includes a pale ale, stout, lager and IPA – available throughout Scotland.

However, the Fife beer firm hopes to grow its sales in England through Matthew Clark’s network next year.

Co-owner of St Andrews Brewing Company Tim Butler said: “While this deal has significantly increased our reach in Scotland, we are looking to expand sales into England in 2020.”

The firm recently increased its capacity and is now brewing 15,000 litres per week, which has allowed a three-fold increase in week-on-week sales against last year.

Earlier this year the brewery signed a six-figure deal with supermarket giant Sainsbury’s and has also been exploring potential export markets.

The firm invested heavily in a 50HL brewing kit after a highly successful crowdfunding campaign last year which raised over £600,000.

The company also opened a new pub at Dundee’s Caird Hall earlier this year.

Andrew Sinat, St Andrews Brewing Company’s sales manager, added: “Matthew Clark’s knowledge of the on-trade means that we are able to increase our geographical reach, provide great service and support the trade outlets eager to stock our beers.”
