Petrie says Montrose will relish challenge

-

An away game against Falkirk is likely to be the toughest fixture in League 1 this season at any time.

But when it comes on the back of Ray McKinnon’s side thrashing Dumbarton 6-0 the week before, it looks even more daunting for Montrose this afternoon.

Stewart Petrie’s side won’t be running up the white flag however, with their midweek Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Cup derby defeat of Forfar Athletic the perfect confidence boost.

“It was a great result and a good performance from us,” said Petrie.

“Whatever the competition, you always want to get through to the next round and to win against a local rival.

“Forfar are a strong team and there were some very encouraging individual performances from us.

“We got the breaks which we didn’t get on Saturday.

“It’s still very early on but I’m fairly happy with where we’re at.

“On paper you would say that this is the hardest match in the division.

“Raymond has assembled a really strong squad – probably stronger than the one he had in the Championship last year.

“They won 6-0 last week and were 5-0 up at half-time so we know what we’re up against.

“But if we play our best we can get a result, and we’ve got good memories of winning there last season in the Betfred Cup.”

Ross Campbell and Terry Masson are both struggling but Sean Dillon can play after his red card appeal was upheld.

Craig Johnston has returned to light training, which Petrie described as “great news”. It is hoped he may be available next month.
