Brechin display ‘not nearly good enough’

BRECHIN CITY 0 QUEEN’S PARK 3

-

Brechin City went down to their third successive league defeat with Queen’s Park running out comfortable 3-0 winners at Glebe Park.

The Spiders were in total command from the outset and City boss Barry Smith must now be pondering how he can change the fortunes of his side who remain pointless after the first three matches.

“The performance was bitterly disappointing,” he said.

“Queen’s Park pressed us all over the park but we never did that to them and that’s the most disappointing aspect. I’ve never questioned the players’ work-rate and commitment before but today they just didn’t show a reaction.

“We changed things at half-time in an effort to get ourselves back in the match but it just didn’t happen.

“Whether or not there had been a reaction to Tuesday night’s match against Elgin I don’t know but the performance certainly wasn’t nearly good enough.”

The visitors started the match on the front foot and they grabbed the opening goal after 10 minutes when David Galt picked the ball up on the left and swung an inch-perfect cross into the City box for Kieran Moore who blasted an unstoppable shot past Ross Sinclair.

They doubled their lead just nine minutes later when the impressive Galt collected a pass at the edge of the box before drilling home a rightfoot drive.

The Spiders continued where they left off at the beginning of the second-half and they were awarded a penalty within the first five minutes after Jonathan Page had impeded Galt in the box but Salim Kouider-Aissa fired the spot-kick against the post.

However, they underlined their superiority eight minutes from time when they broke quickly from defence to attack with Galt laying on a great cross-field pass for the unmarked Thomas Block who picked his spot in the net.
