Former Dundee police station to be transformed into beauty salon

-

A former Dundee police station is to be transformed into a beauty salon.

The former Police Scotland Brook Street office building in Broughty Ferry will be given a makeover before it houses Evermore Beauty.

The property was available because the force moved to the other end of the street early last year.

The business owner, Laura Kennedy, will convert the ground level of the two-floor property into a nail salon and waiting area.

The former changing areas for officers on the first floor will also receive treatment and be turned into rooms for facials, massages and eye procedures.

Ms Kennedy, who opened her Brown Street salon in 2015, said: “I’m excited. There’s going to be big changes. I’m still looking at exactly what needs to be done but there’s so much potential — it’s a lovely building.

“I think it’s just what the area needs. There’s so many issues with mental health right now and I feel that this can help.”

Meanwhile, a vacant site where Cupar Police Station stood could be used for affordable housing.

Fife Council is to transfer the land on Carslogie Road to its housing service for the construction of new homes.

The police station was demolished after it closed in 2013 and officers moved to Waterend Road.

Developer Balmoral Construction had wanted to build a 70-bed care home on the site but its first proposal was rejected by both Fife Council and a Scottish Government reporter.

Construction work will begin as soon as consent is given.
