Safety measures at Perthshire junction blackspot welcomed

-

New road safety measures designed to reduce incidents at a Perthshire accident blackspot have been welcomed.

Vehicle-activated signs will be installed at the Meikleour crossroads at the A93 and A984 junction, along with anti-skid surfaces.

The area has seen several accidents in recent years, including the death of a motorcyclist in 2006.

Last month, a two-vehicle collision prompted a full emergency response when it closed the A984 at Meikleour.

Mid Scotland and Fife Conservative MSP Murdo Fraser wrote to Perth and Kinross Council chief executive Karen Reid after constituents contacted him with road safety concerns. The speed of vehicles driving in the area was of particular concern.

Mr Fraser has since received confirmation of the measures.

He said: “I welcome these road safety measures proposed for Meikleour crossroads.

“The council’s chief executive has stated that vehicle-activated signs on both approaches to the crossroads on the A93 are scheduled for upgrade this year and anti-skid surfacing at the crossroads is also planned to take place during this present financial year.

“All these measures should help improve road safety at the Meikleour crossroads and it is good to see the council acting quickly on this serious issue.”

Blairgowrie and Glens councillor Caroline Shiers echoed Mr Fraser’s welcome.

“I am pleased to hear of the actions proposed by Perth and Kinross Council,” she said.

“The investment in tackling long-standing road safety issues around East Perthshire is making a real difference.”
