Plenty boats but not a lot of fish at Rescobie

- WITH NEIL ANDERSON

A busy weekend at RESCOBIE LOCH saw lots of boats out in glorious sunshine but unfortunately not lots of fish.

Rescobie and Raemoir competed in the first leg of the Challenge Shield with Rescobie bringing in six fish for 14lb 10oz and returning one, with Raemoir bringing in four fish for 9lb 7oz.

Rescobie visit Banchory in November where they hope to do well enough to retain the shield.

ABCD AC Fife were also out with 25 fish for 60lb and returned seven on 10 rods.

Graham Seabright had the heaviest fish with a rainbow at 4lb 2oz.

Blairgowrie and Rattray AC returned with eight rods and brought in 16 fish for 36lb 3oz.

Alistair Campbell had the heaviest with a rainbow at 3lb.

Monifieth Trout Fishers AC had their pairs competition on Sunday with eight rods taking three brownies for 6lb 8oz and 10 rainbows for 22lb 8oz.

The competition was won by Geordie Meldrum and Connor Wales Jr who was on his first outing with the club.

Connor also had the heaviest fish with a brownie at 2lb 6oz.

MONIKIE is continuing to fish well and anglers who ventured out had some good sport.

Evening sessions are now finished for the season.

Returns included Balgay AC with four boats (seven rods) keeping nine fish for 18lb, R Malkowski with four fish for 11lb, visitors D Malcolm and C Duncan keeping 10 fish for 20lb 12oz and returning six.

After a downpour, the pools at FORBES OF KINGENNIE are now back to normal level.

The Boathouse Pool has produced plenty of fish without anyone landing especially high numbers.

Mr Sievwright found the right method to release 11 fish and Jim Brown enjoyed a morning session, returning eight fish. The Burnside Pool has been the most productive this week, with Mr Wood taking four fish for 8.5lb and releasing a further 24, taken mainly on buzzers.

Mr McAndrew had a superb afternoon/evening releasing 27 fish; Grant Burnett also did well returning 19 fish and Jock Leslie returned 16.

Tam “Specimen” Costello released four fish in a short morning session with the best being a magnificent rainbow weighing 17lb.

Kingennie was host to some members of the Scottish Youth Fishing Team who landed/ returned 40 fish between them.

On the catch/keep side of things, Charles Lafferty landed four trout for a total of 12lb.

There has been a lot of surface activity on the Bankside Pool. Frank Sherriff cashed in on it to release nine fish including a rainbow of 8lb 6oz and a brownie weighing 8lb.

Powerbait fished beneath a float was again the best method on the Woodside Pool (any legal method).

On Thursday, 15 fish were taken for a total of 27lb; on Friday 15 fish were taken for a combined weight of 32lb; and on Saturday 20 fish were landed for a total of 41lb.

The temperature at LAKE OF MENTEITH climbed to around 19C at 6ft by the end of the day on Sunday which made fishing hard.

This was in stark contrast to before the mini heat wave arrived on Friday 23 when the lake had another new record catch.

A total of 641 fish were caught by the 60 anglers taking part in the second semi-final of the Scottish Club Championships (41 more than the previous semi).

With an average weight of more than 2lb 12oz, the total catch weighed 1,733lb.

At FRANDY FISHERY, Gerry Grattan (Kincardine) kept two fish weighing 7lb and Jim Donnelly (Tullibody) two fish weighing 4lb.

Kenny Baird and Colin Henderson (Tillicoultry) kept eight fish weighing 16lb, while Colin McLuckie and John Hamilton (Glen Devon) kept five fish weighing 12lb.

The angling clubs did well with Police Scotland (West) having 21 fish weighing 43lb 3oz, Gartcosh A/C 32 fish for 59lb, and Catch 22 A/C kept five fish weighing 8lb.
