Bottled water giant sets 100% recycling target for Solheim Cup

-

Tournament sponsors Highland Spring have pledged that all plastic bottles collected at the 2019 Solheim Cup will be recycled into new bottles.

The Blackford firm is working closely with event organisers to ensure that every plastic bottle collected across the course of the week-long tournament will be recycled and reprocessed.

There will be 80 Highland Spring recycling bins for plastic bottles, and an additional 80 bins for other recyclable plastics made available to all visitors across the Gleneagles venue.

Visit Scotland estimates that the all-female golf contest will have more than 100,000 spectators in attendance across the duration of the tournament.

Any events sponsored by Highland Spring must have an accompanying recycling plan to make it as easy as possible for people to recycle their empty bottles, so they can be made into new ones.

Highland Spring will also be present in the Fan Zone at the tournament with an interactive stand which will help visitors learn more about healthy hydration, the source of the company’s water and their 100% recycled and recyclable eco bottle.

Furthermore, ‘Highland Spring Recycling Heroes’ will also be working across the tournament to ensure all plastic bottles are collected for recycling.

Les Montgomery, chief executive of the Highland Spring Group, said: “The stunning backdrop of the Ochil Hills, in Perthshire, is the perfect showcase for all Scotland has to offer and we want to make sure that we leave no trace on the environment around the tournament.”
