Scots reveal little ways to win at work

-

Do you like going to work every day? Well, according to new research, the majority (60.6%) of Scottish professionals enjoy their job, 61.3% feeling happy on a daily basis.

But what is behind this joy at work and what is making them happy? The study conducted by CV-Library, which surveyed more than 2,000 UK professionals, found there were a few key factors that contributed to Scots’ enjoyment at work.

The key win at work that brings Scots the most joy is completing a task with no faults, with more than half (57.7%) revealing this made them happy, while helping other people followed, bringing joy to more than four in 10 Scottish professionals.

Being praised by a manager, having skills tested on a tricky task and being given the lead role on a new project make up the top five of the key factors that contribute to Scots’ happiness at work.

The top 10 key small wins at work:

1. Completing a task with no faults – 57.7%

2. Feeling like you’re helping people – 42.3%

3. Being praised by your manager – 32.7%

4. Having your skills tested on a difficult task – 30.8%

5. Being given a leading role on a new

project – 17.3%

6. Getting to work on time – 17.3%

7. Compliment from a colleague – 15.4%

8. Leaving at the end of the day – 14.4%

9. Taking maximum breaks and leaving on time – 4.8%

10. Having little/no work to do – 2.9%

What’s more, despite the majority of Scots feeling happy on a day-to-day basis and enjoying the work they do, 16% state that their job doesn’t bring them any joy.

Lee Biggins, founder and CEO of CV-Library, said: “We spend most of our life at work, so if you don’t enjoy what you do or who you work with, you’ll never truly maximise your potential or be happy in yourself. By understanding what drives you, whether that’s helping others or managing a team, you’ll gain more clarity on what to focus on at work.

“Resenting your job just isn’t sustainable, it will only lead to a deterioration in your mental health and make you more susceptible to stress and burnout. In fact, another piece of research that we’ve conducted suggests that six in 10 men want to quit their jobs as it’s affecting their mental health.

“That said, if you really aren’t enjoying your work, then maybe it’s time for a change. There are plenty of job opportunities elsewhere in the country.”
