A man has been arrested following the death of a woman in an Aberdeen suburb.

Officers were called to a semidetached house on the city’s Angusfield Avenue – close to its junction with King’s Gate – on Thursday after receiving reports of a death.

The woman who died was last night named locally as Alice Farquharson.

Yesterday, police officers and a forensics team could be seen going in and out of the property.

Additional officers stood guard in the driveway, preventing access to the rear of the home.

Residents living on the quiet suburban street were left stunned by the sudden appearance of the emergency services in their midst.

“I’m shocked by what’s happened.” Police said yesterday there was no cause for alarm within the wider community as the death was believed to be a “contained incident”.

They confirmed the woman had died within the property.

Officers are expected to be present in the area over the next few days while investigators try to piece together what happened.

Yesterday, police were seen speaking to local members of the community living close to the property.

Detective Gary Winter, of the major investigation team, said: “Inquiries are at a very early stage and will continue throughout the coming days.

“I would like to take this opportunity to stress that there is no threat to the wider community and it appears to have been a contained incident.

“I would like to thank local residents for their patience.”

Anyone with information about the incident who has not yet spoken to the police is asked to call 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
