GLEN WINS IN FALKLAND FOREST New Mexico University student Jonathan Glen headed the field at the Scottish Trail Championsh­ips held over a hilly course in Falkland Forest.

Glen covered the 10km course in 31 minutes 16 seconds, pulling away from Tom Martyn (Hunters Bog Trotters) to open up a six-second advantage over the closing stages. Edinburgh’s Hunters Bog Trotters finished clear team winners while Cambuslang pipped Fife AC for team silver.

Ryan Lafferty, winner of last week’s Kirkcaldy Half Marathon, led home Fife in 11th, supported by Sam Fernando 14th, Rory Scott 19th and James Hall 37th. Hungarian triathlete Fanni Gyurko (Central AC) was a clear winner of the women’s title timed at 37 minutes 10 seconds, followed home by Laura Dickson (Lasswade) in 37.44. Edinburgh AC took the team title ahead of Fife AC , with Jen Spence eighth, Jennifer Cruickshan­ks 11th, Halina Rees 12th and Ailsa Cruickshan­ks 15th.

Katie Johnson (Edinburgh AC) posted a personal best 800m time of 2:09.63 to take silver at the England Athletics championsh­ips at Bedford as Ella Greenway (Cleethorpe­s AC) added the England title to the English Schools equivalent from earlier in the summer, clocking 2:09.26. Pitreavie athletes performed well as Rebecca Grieve took silver in the Under-15 age group 300m (39.85), with Sophie Wallwork fourth.

Sarah Coutts took bronze in the Under 17s 800m. Isla Calvert (Livingston) won the U17 800m, clocking 2:07.06 to come home more than four seconds clear.
