Fifers out to go top of table in day’s only league game

-

East Fife head to Forfar on a high after last weekend’s 4-2 success over Raith Rovers, with manager Darren Young delighted that his side are involved in the day’s only league game.

The fixture was postponed three weeks ago as both clubs were involved in Betfred Cup ties. It was due to be played this midweek but exits from the Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Cup allowed the game to be rearranged for today.

Young said: “It was a tremendous victory and performance over Raith last Saturday and the decision to play this game, rather than in midweek, seems even better now as we have given ourselves a better chance to build momentum.

“Last season we ended up playing catch-up in the final couple of months and it did affect us so it is good to lessen the chances of that happening again by playing games that are spaced apart better.”

As well as building momentum, the Fifers have another reason to be glad that the League One match is on.

Young explained: “It is a game between two teams who want to be in the top four at the end of the season but we have the chance to go to the top of the table by winning this one. However, so do Forfar so we will not be getting carried away.

“Both clubs are ambitious, and both will welcome the chance to be leading the field, as all the talk this season has been about other clubs.”

Young added: “Forfar made good signings during the summer, especially in the forward areas. They will be disappointed at only scoring three goals so far, however, those three goals have seen them pick up seven points.

“They have only conceded one so whilst they are not scoring, they are conceding even less. If we go there and play like we did against Raith then we will give ourselves a right good chance of winning.”

Kyle Bell and Chris Duggan remain out injured, with Kevin Smith set for a place on the bench after his ankle injury improved.
