Stars keen to Storm on as first derby clash looms

-

Dundee Stars aim to continue their blistering start to the new season when they get their league campaign under way this weekend.

The Stars face Manchester Storm tonight before tomorrow’s massive derby against Fife Flyers.

Stars are coming off the back of two big wins over Glasgow Clan in the Challenge Cup and will want to make the same start in the league.

Stars head coach Omar Pacha said: “It is two big games but our main focus right now is Manchester.

“It is our first regular season game of the year, so we know we want to kick-off the season in the right way.

“It is always a tough building to play in but we have had a good week of practice so heading into their place will be a good challenge.”

After seeing his side net 13 goals in two tremendous performances, the Canadian coach wants to see that form continue.

Pacha added: “We need to play the right way and obviously generate chances and score goals again but as long as we are moving our feet and playing the right way then I am confident we are going to get a result.”

His side made the best start possible to the Challenge Cup with two wins out of two and it is just as important to make the same start in the league, according to Pacha.

He continued: “It’s massive, we had a great start to the Challenge Cup and now we have a bit of momentum, so we have to keep going and start the league campaign in the right form as well.”

Stars forward Anthony Beauregard has insisted Stars can’t get cocky and must be ready for this weekend.

He said: “You start every year with a little momentum and we just need to build on the two wins against Glasgow.

“You need to keep your head in the game and stay positive but we can’t get cocky. It is only two games in and now the regular season starts, so it’s just the beginning of the year and we just need to be ready.”

Keep doing what we are doing was the message from the Canadian centreman as Dundee aim for another successful weekend.

Dundee will be without winger Egils Kalns, who was handed a onegame suspension on Thursday by the league’s department of player safety for a hit on Glasgow’s Craig Moore last Sunday.

Face-off time for tonight’s game in Manchester is at 7pm, while tomorrow’s home game will start at 5pm.
