ST VIGEANS. Meetings resume in the church hall tonight at 7.30, with a beetle drive. Stovies will be served. Everyone welcome.

BURRELTON and WOODSIDE. The opening meeting is on Wednesday September 18 at 7.15pm in Cargill Burrelton Church Hall. New members welcome.

KINGSMUIR. The first meeting of the new session is on Wednesday September 18 at 7.30pm in Kingsmuir Hall. The guest speaker will be from Cove Honey Bees. Following meetings will be held on the second Wednesday of every month at the new time of 7pm.

STRATHALLA­N. The first meeting of the new season is on Thursday in Aytoun Hall, Auchterard­er, at 7.30pm. Quality Meat Scotland will give a presentati­on.

STANLEY. The opening meeting will take place on Wednesday at 7.15pm for 7.30 in Stanley Village Hall. Margaret Young will give a talk on embroidery.

MATTOCKS and WELLBANK. The ladies enjoyed a talk by Amanda Kopel on Frank’s Law. Competitio­ns: raspberry jam – 1 E Macrury, 2 N Nicolson, 3 A Bruce; favourite postcard – 1 G Keillor, 2 E Macrury, 3 H Barton; flower of the month – A Bruce.

INVERKEILO­R. Meetings resume at 7.30pm on September 18 in the village hall. The speaker will be the Queen’s Piper.

LETHAM and DISTRICT. President Lynne Webster welcomed members for the new session, including new members Jean Stewart and Moira Robertson. Janet Mcfarlane and her daughter Sandra Philpot, of Wee Mac Creations in Brechin, gave an introducti­on to glass painting. Vice-president Sandra Donald proposed thanks. AUCHTERTOO­L. President Mrs Thomson welcomed members. During the summer a coffee evening raised £530 for Scotland’s Charity Air Ambulance, and members enjoyed outings to Hill of Tarvit and Montrave polytunnel­s. Lesley Bruce of Cala Jewellery displayed some of her work. Mrs Lawrie proposed thanks. Competitio­ns: ring – 1 Mrs Lawrie, 2 Mrs Templeton; flower of the month – Mrs McGregor.

KINLOCH. President Ella Neill welcomed speaker Linda Retson, a long-serving member of the SWI and current national president. She told of the history of the SWRI and the changes over the years, including the dropping of the R from the name. Competitio­ns: flower of the month – Meryl Simon; hand-tied posy – 1 Elspeth Campbell, 2 Janice Shepherd, 3 Ella Neill; custard creams – 1 Ella Neill, 2 Janice Shepherd, 3 Elspeth Campbell. Members are holding a fundraisin­g raffle, to help with hall maintenanc­e costs, in Tesco, Welton Road, Blairgowri­e, on Saturday September 28 from 10am-4pm.

FOWLIS and LIFF. President Phyllis Lyske welcomed members and guests to the 67th birthday party. The cake was cut by long-standing member Muriel Douglas. Competitio­n: floral arrangemen­t in a cup and saucer – 1 Una Horspool, 2 Mary Skinner, 3 Isabel Wright. Member Moira Cardosi took part in Dundee Kiltwalk and raised more than £2,000 for Parkinson’s research.

STRATHMART­INE. Mrs Kennedy welcomed everyone and introduced Eddie Small, who gave a talk on the Dundee Marys. Competitio­ns: flower – 1 M Kennedy, 2 I Huitt, 3 C Allardyce; Dundee cake – 1 M Tosh, 2 B Chalmers, 3 M Kennedy.

STRACATHRO. President Jane Cuthill welcomed members and guests. Sally Dennis gave a talk on her life as a magician’s assistant and a contortion­ist. Competitio­ns: rhubarb and ginger jam – 1 Fiona Gill, 2 Ida Christie, 3 Jane Cuthill; favourite plate – 1 Jeannie Soutar, 2 Maureen Greig, 3 Jane Cuthill.

KETTLE and DISTRICT. President Helen Ramsay welcomed everyone. Unfortunat­ely Wiltshire Foods were unable to attend so member Linda entertaine­d with a game of bingo. Competitio­ns: Forfar bridie – 1 Helen Ramsay, 2 Linda Strachan, 3 Margaret Drummond; flower of the month – Margaret Drummond.

LUNANHEAD. President Alison Beattie welcomed David Orr who gave a talk on the castles of Angus. Lorraine Jackson proposed thanks. Competitio­ns: decorated wooden spoon – 1 Susan Wilson, 2 Lynne Howe, 3 Lorraine Jackson; Scottish posy – 1 Lynne Howe, 2 Lorraine Jackson, 3 Fiona Anderson.

EASSIE and NEVAY. Major Jim McCluskey gave a talk on his life in the Salvation Army.
