Connolly hat-trick as Fed triumph in thriller

Broughty Athletic new boy Ryan Connolly, signed on loan from Cowdenbeat­h, hit the ground running with a hat-trick in the Fed’s 6-3 win over Luncarty at Whitton Park on Saturday.

Ross McCord opened the scoring with a free-kick on 12 minutes but Chris Anton levelled from the spot 10 minutes later.

Bryan Duell put Broughty in front at half-time, scoring on 41 minutes. Two goals in a minute from Connolly put the home side further in front before Calum Kirkcaldy pulled a goal back for Luncarty.

McCord then made it 5-2 from the spot on 84 minutes.

An own goal by Alassan Jones saw Luncarty pull a third goal back, only for Connolly to complete his hat-trick in stoppage-time to make it 6-3.

Tayport remain rooted to the foot of the Super League North after a 2-1 defeat at home to Scone Thistle at the Canniepair­t where they were once again reduced to 10 men.

Jamie Gill put Tayport in front on 34 minutes and they looked to be in control but six minutes later the visitors were level when Jack Shaw fumbled a cross and Aaron Carlon equalised.

With 10 minutes remaining Shaw appeared to be impeded at a cross but Darren Gray managed to put the ball in the net for the winner. Shaw was redcarded in the aftermath.

Thornton Hibs have hit a bit of a dip and the Fife outfit have now gone three games without a win following a surprise thrashing at Bathgate Thistle.

Bryan King put Thistle ahead and a Robbie Feeney brace saw the home side race into a 3-0 lead.

Garry Thomson pulled one back for Hibs on 23 minutes but Bailey Flanagan restored the three-goal advantage five minutes after the restart.

Adam Drummond pulled a second back on 62 minutes but an own goal made it five and in added time Feeney completed his hat-trick to make it 6-2.

Kennoway Star Hearts made it three wins on the bounce with a comfortabl­e 4-0 win at Lochore Welfare.

James Collins opened the scoring for the visitors and Paul Ferrier added a second.

Gregor Jordan, on loan from Dunfermlin­e Athletic, scored number three before Willie Campbell added a fourth for the Treaton Park club.

Blairgowri­e maintain their challenge to East Craigie at the top after they beat Dundee Violet at Davie Park.

They were pushed all the way by Andy Heggie’s side, edging the game 4-3. Gary Axworthy scored a hat-trick for Blairgowri­e with James Simpson getting the fourth. Sean Tucker matched Axworthy with his own hat-trick for the Pansies.

Sam King scored the only goal of the game after 35 minutes as Coupar Angus shocked Brechin Vics at Victoria Park.

Newburgh have gone back to the top of the Premier League South following their 6-3 win at West Calder United.

Scott Hudson’s side led 4-0 through Jamie Gay (12), Sam Kirkham (21), Scott Sutherland (26) and Harry Galloway (33) and Galloway added a second five minutes after half-time.

The home side pulled a goal back on 63 minutes but Sutherland added his second to put Newburgh 6-1 in front. West Calder added two consolatio­n goals late on to take a bit of the gloss off a fine performanc­e.

Rosyth move into third place after beating Bo’ness United 3-2 at the Fleet Grounds, with Barry Sibanda, Tam Hampson and Jack Henderson on the mark for the Fife side.

Kirkcaldy & Dysart managed to tame freescorin­g Stoneyburn, drawing 2-2 with the West Lothian side at Denfield Park. Ewan Henderson made sure Kirkcaldy took a point with an equaliser on 85 minutes.

Ryan Hughes earned Lochgelly Albert a point at home to Linlithgow Rose as the sides drew 1-1.
