Flyers coach ‘happy’ while Pacha laments Stars’ goal drought

Fife Flyers head coach Todd Dutiaume praised his squad after their away win at Dundee Stars.

The Canadian noted positive signs in the third period of a tense scrap on Sunday at Dundee Ice Arena.

Dutiaume, whose side lost to Glasgow Clan in the Challenge Cup on Saturday, said: “They were playing the right way.

“I said before the weekend that both the games were going to be great and we knew we were going to be playing in front of big crowds.

“On Saturday we left it a little late and disappointed our home support but I was pleased that we ground a result out in this tough, tough building (Dundee), especially against a pretty offensive team.

“Dundee look fast, creative and skilled and I was happy with the boys.

“We had a slowish start and we kind of toiled in the first and second periods.

“We sorted things out defensively and, in the third period, I saw a lot of positive signs.”

Stars head coach Omar Pacha was left frustrated after his in-from offence failed to bury their chances.

The Stars went from winning back-to-back games and scoring 13 goals two weeks ago to losing both games and scoring just a single goal last weekend.

Pachawasdisappointed to lose so narrowly in both games because his side had created so many chances to score.

He said: “I’m very, very disappointed but there were some positives and I thought the guys worked hard all weekend.

“I think we missed a lot of grade A chances but the execution just wasn’t there.

“You look back across the last four games, we allowed only two goals whilst five-on-five and if you do that in four games your usually looking at better results.

“We are going to have find ways to score goals, maybe uglier goals rather than nice tic-tac-toe ones but our offence went dry this weekend – it’s as simple as that.”

Reflecting more on Sunday’s loss to the Flyers, in front of a big crowd at the Dundee Ice Arena, Pacha said: “It’s very disappointing to have a big crowd like that tonight and not score a goal.

“The crowd was unbelievable, I think that’s the big disappointing for us, letting down the fans but at the same time I can’t criticise the team – they worked hard and competed all night.”

The positive news for Dundee is that there are no injury worries ahead of this weekend’s double-header against Nottingham Panthers and Sheffield Steelers.
