New boss takes positives from clash

-

New Brechin City manager Mark Wilson had a fiery baptism in his first game in charge at Glebe Park after watching his team go down to a 4-2 home defeat from league leaders Cove Rangers.

Cove were hugely impressive throughout the 90 minutes and in truth should have made the scoreline much more emphatic, but despite the loss, the new City boss took positives from the match.

“We started really well and got an early goal from something we’d been working on at training but I was disappointed with our reaction after that,” he said.

“It looked as if we were just waiting for Cove to come back and score which was disappointing and I just feel that our reaction needs to be better than it was today. The players looked tired at stages but that’s something we can work on in training.”

“Although I’m disappointed, we know we’re not going to come up against teams of Cove’s calibre every week.

“They have excellent players who are very good at moving the ball around and they caused us problems but I’m sure we’ll get better once we work on things and get the fitness levels up.

“Looking at the positives, we’ve three games coming up over the next three weeks which I feel are eminently winnable and that’s the way we’ve got to look at things moving forward.”

City got off to the perfect start when Luke Watt headed home a Matthew Knox corner after just three minutes but Cove stormed back with ex City loanee Jamie Masson drilling home the equaliser seven minutes later.

When Mitch Megginson added a second goal shortly afterwards it looked as if City would be in for a torrid afternoon but to their credit they came back and grabbed the equaliser through Emile Ngoy.

However, their joy was shortlived as the visitors regained the lead within a minute when Declan Glass fired home from close range with Fraser Fyvie hitting home goal number four.

After such a frenetic first-half it was always going to be a bit calmer after the break but Cove again showed their class with their quick passing and movement off the ball.
