- WITH NEIL ANDERSON

The 127th Scottish National Flyfishing Championships were held on the LAKE

OF MENTEITH recently.

The 2019 National Champion is Allan McLachlan, representing Costa Ecosse. Allan landed 23 fish for a total weight of 49lbs 10.4ozs.

Second was defending champion Derek Pozzi, of Thalassa AC, who landed 22 for a total of 48lbs 10.9ozs, while third was Martin McCafferty, of Future FF, who had 20 for 42lbs 12.1ozs.

The heaviest fish was a rainbow of 4lbs 11.7ozs landed by Richard McHattie of Ormiston AC. The 66 anglers landed a total of 704 for a total weight of 2020lbs. The rod average was 10.66.

The season has definitely changed at RESCOBIE LOCH with cooler mornings and earlier finishing time as darkness falls.

The water remains clear and at the more usual height for this time of year with only a slight algal bloom at the boathouse. The weed seems to have collapsed in all the affected areas.

Visitors included Monifieth Trout Fishers who took four fish for 10lb 8oz.

Best limit bags of the week include Lee Anderson four for 14lb, Frankie Keith four for 13lb 8oz and Allan Wood four for 12lb 4oz. There have been quite a few fish in the 4-5lb range caught this week but the best was a 7lb 8oz Rainbow caught by Eck Fyall, this month’s current leader on the board.

There have been some good catches recorded on the Boathouse Pool at

FORBES OF KINGENNIE this week. Chris Skivington returned 17 whilst Messrs. Nicoll and Devenney released 16 fish each.

With good water clarity it has been mainly buzzers and dries which have scored best.

On the Burnside Pool Alan Thomson enjoyed a couple of excellent afternoon sessions, returning 10 fish, including

a magnificent rainbow weighing 13lbs 08ozs and another at 11lbs.

The Bankside Pool has been slightly moody but some excellent catches have still been made. Kinross AC members returned 35 fish on Saturday, with the best being a superb rainbow weighing 14lbs 06ozs.

MONIKIE has had a great spell of form this past week for clubs and members. The Balbeggie Angling Club with seven boats (13 rods) kept 65 fish for 123lbs 15ozs and returned 20 and the Dundee Angling Club with six boats (12 rods) kept 39 for 74lbs 7ozs.

At Newton Farm Trout Fishery the water temperature is now down to 14C and fish are responding well. A total of 240 fish have been stocked in the last 10 days. Email your fishery news to sales@ angusangling.co.uk or contact Neil Anderson on 01307 466366 or 07759 022503. Tight Lines!
