Former Kinross members on duty for national team
VOLLEYBALL: Return to region for duo as Euro event comes to Fair City
Two former members of Kinross Volleyball Club will be on international duty at this weekend’s European Beach Volleyball competition at Perth’s Darnhall Tennis Club.
Connor Boyle and Mitchell Brown from Kinross will play for Scotland at the Fair City venue, where two permanent beach volleyball courts are being prepared.
The pair play together for the first time with a long-term view of qualifying for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games in 2022.
Both started as 12-year-olds with Kinross Volleyball Club and moved on to play for City of Edinburgh Volleyball Club with Connor progressing to play in the English National League.
Both have already been capped for Scotland at full six-a-side level but are now concentrating on the two-a-side game while still playing national league with their respective club sides.
Mitchell has represented Scotland at international beach level before, playing in Vaduz, Leichtenstien.
Connor has also played international beach as well as Grand Slam beach events in England.
Scottish Volleyball and Perth and Kinross Council have worked in partnership to create a new inland beach volleyball facility at Perth, which will allow beach players to prepare for future national and international competitions to complement the current existing facility at Portobello Beach.
With a prize pot of $3,000 up for grabs there is plenty of an incentive for the teams to up their game.
The men’s and women’s beach competition will get under way tomorrow with qualification matches continuing through Saturday and Sunday morning before the finals on Sunday afternoon.
