Sparkling Glass to be offered new contract
DUNDEE UNITED: Youngster rewarded for his amazing start on loan at Cove as talks are to begin
Dundee United are ready to open talks with midfielder Declan Glass following a sparkling start to his loan move.
The 19-year-old has been a huge hit since making the temporary move to Cove Rangers, winning the Ladbrokes League Two player of the month award for August.
He has already scored five times for the SPFL newcomers and his form has received lavish praise from Cove boss Paul Hartley.
United are offering all their rising stars new deals and Glass will be the latest in a line that has included Louis Appere, Jamie Robson, Logan Chalmers and Ross Graham.
Meanwhile, Tangerines gaffer Robbie Neilson will welcome to Tannadice tomorrow a man who has earned his utmost respect.
The person in question is Arbroath boss Dick Campbell.
Neilson said: “Dick and Pink (his twin brother Ian) have done a great job down there.
“I watched their last game against Partick and they could have been three up at half-time.
“Also, when teams get promoted like Arbroath they often change the whole team but he has chosen to go with continuity.
“He has kept a hold of the players who did it for him and those are players with 300 or 400 appearances and know the game.
“Dick has won a few promotions in his time and has a wealth of experience.”
United were never going to take the Lichties lightly, even before they lost on penalties to the Angus club at Tannadice in the Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Cup a fortnight ago.
Neilson knows the Tangerines will have to up their game from both the cup tie and last Saturday’s first league loss at Ayr United.
He said: “We made a few changes that day – as did Arbroath – so it will be two different teams going out there on Saturday.
“I would still expect a similar game in that they will try to make it very difficult for us to play by closing down space.
“They can kill the game and make it hard but we have to deal with it.
“It is up to us to go out and win the game because it’s Dundee United at Tannadice and we need to win.”
United supporters are reminded to buy tickets online for the match against the Lichties. There will be no cash gates or George Fox Stand ticket pod for home fans.
