Television star Phill Jupitus will team up with Scots comedian Fred MacAulay to host this year’s Courier Business Awards.

A team captain on Never Mind The Buzzcocks for almost 20 years, Phill will take charge of proceedings as the finest business talent in Tayside and Fife is recognised later this month.

Comedian Fred, a native of Perth, will be master of ceremonies and compere for the evening, as a total of 23 awards are handed out on October 26.

This year’s Courier Business Awards, held in association with chartered accountants MHA Henderson Loggie, sold out seven weeks before the event, with a record 820 guests attending.

Phill, who now lives in the East Neuk, said he was looking forward to celebrating the many achievements of the local business community.

He said: “It’s a shortlist full of exciting businesses – some are major local employers, some are disrupting their industries and some are excelling at what they do.

“It’s a genuine achievement for companies to make the shortlist in such a tough competition and I can’t wait to celebrate with them later this month.”

David Smith, managing partner of MHA Henderson Loggie and one of the awards judges, said: “We are very excited that Phill Jupitus is joining the event with his own inimitable entertainment.

“It’s great news to have Fred back this year after his terrific first appearance at last year’s awards.”

Guests at this year’s event will enjoy an evening of fine dining and top-quality entertainment within a lavish marquee which has been built in the grounds of Apex City Quay Hotel in Dundee.

Courier editor Catriona MacInnes, who chaired the judging panel, said the seventh edition of the Courier Business Awards is set to be the most spectacular yet.

She said: “The quality of business and entrepreneurial talent we have seen over the years never fails to impress. The standard of entries this year was higher than ever before.

“I am sure that Phill and Fred will keep everyone entertained as our shortlisted firms anxiously wait to hear if they are a proud recipient of one of this year’s awards.”

Tonight a reception for all the finalists will be held at Hotel Indigo in Dundee.
