Women in dock after ‘bizarre’ row with police officers in Perth

A woman sat down in the middle of a city centre street, leaving the public fearing she had been hit by a car.

Denise Mulvihill prevented traffic from passing on Perth’s County Place.

However as worried motorists called police she jumped up and started laughing.

She appeared at Perth Sheriff Court alongside her flatmate, Sarah Stewart, who attacked police officers as they were arresting Mulvihill.

Depute fiscal Tina Dickie told the court: “At 5.35pm accused Mulvihill was seen sitting in the road at the locus.

“A passerby in a vehicle was concerned that she may have been run over and contacted police.

“When the passerby was on the phone to the police the accused got up from the road and began laughing and smiling and screaming at passersby. The passerby on the phone realised she had not been run over but that she did seem to be under the influence of something.

“At 5.50pm police attended and found the accused in a common close in County Place and she was heavily under the influence of alcohol.

“She was extremely hostile to police officers – shouting and swearing.”

Solicitor David Holmes, defending, said both women had issues with their mental health.

He said Mulvihill accepted that she had behaved in a “bizarre” manner.

Mulvihill, 19, and Stewart, 23, admitted acting in a threatening manner on Perth’s County Place on October 2.

Sentence on the pair, who are both of County Place, Perth, was deferred for reports.
