Petrie hoping side can build on win

-

Montrose boss Stewart Petrie is hoping his players have rediscovered their confidence after finally securing a moraleboosting win, writes Neil Robertson.

The Gable Endies had lost six games on the bounce before facing Peterhead at Links Park last week.

They ultimately came out on top in a seven-goal thriller, with Petrie especially delighted at the response from his team to go on and secure a winner after being pegged back to 3-3.

Now, he is looking for his squad to build on that result when they travel to face Danny Lennon’s Clyde outfit this afternoon.

Petrie said: “It was a relief to finally get that win. It does seep the confidence when you are on a run like that. It was not as if we were getting battered or anything like that.

“We were in every single game and, on another day, we could have taken something out of every match. Just those wee breaks, individual errors or where we haven’t been at our best at times was costing us.

“So it was great to get the win and the manner we did it in as well. At 3-1 up we were really commanding but then all of a sudden it was 3-3 and the reaction to that was outstanding from the lads. It would have been easy for the heads to go down, feeling sorry for themselves, but they certainly did not do that.

“I thought we thoroughly deserved to win.”

Clyde were promoted from League 2 last season but have adjusted well to life in the higher division and sit fourth, with Petrie well aware his players will have to be at their best to make it back-to-back victories.

He added: “Clyde have made a good start and Danny’s teams are always well set up. They are very well organised with some good players.

“It is a big pitch so we will need plenty of legs, that’s for sure. I am looking forward to it but I know if we don’t play well then we won’t win, it’s as simple as that.

“Hopefully, though, we can go there with a bit of confidence after last week’s win.

“The team will be along similar lines. For the first time this season we will not have to chop and change as much as we have done.”

Kerr Waddell has recovered from a foot problem and returns to the squad along with Terry Masson after suspension but long-term injury victim Lewis Milne misses out.
