Blue Brazil face tough test at home to Edinburgh City

-

Defender Craig Barr insists Cowdenbeath will find out today if they’re going to be challengers in Ladbrokes League Two this season.

The Blue Brazil have been on a brilliant run, less than 18 months after being on the brink of disaster.

They’ve won five in a row, including three in September, which has landed Barr and boss Gary Bollan with Ladbrokes monthly awards.

But the experienced centre-back reckons today’s clash with Edinburgh City will tell them a lot.

He said: “It’s going to be a tough test for us and it will be a big game that will tell us where we actually stand.

“We’ll find out whether we have just been on a wee hot streak or if we can do a job against one of the top teams. It will give us an idea if we can be challengers.

“We’ve had a great month and everything has been going for us. We’ve had a few penalties and a couple of other breaks but you have to take your chances when they come your way and we’ve also been defending well.

“We know we’re only a quarter of the way in. We don’t just want to have a good month – we want to have a good season.

“We don’t want to look back and say: ‘Oh, remember September’ – it’s all about the bigger picture.”

Former Livi and Airdrie boss Bollan, who saved Cowden from falling out of the division in 2018, beating Cove Rangers in a play-off, said: “I think it could have been disastrous if the club had fallen out but thankfully it didn’t happen.

“We’ve managed to bring in better players and hope to continue doing that as we build something here.

“This season we are looking to improve again. We’ve made a decent start but we have a long way to go.”
