Grove lacking clinical touch as they remain top

-

Grove Menzieshill retained their lead in the Premiership as a result of their narrow victory over Watsonians – but must be disappointed they could only score once through Keir Robb in the early stages.

Watsonians came more into the game as the match progressed and were unfortunate not to score from a few opportunities.

That still gives Menzieshill three wins to start their season but Grange, who were representing Scotland in the EuroHockey League in Barcelona, have a game in hand to overtake Menzieshill on goal difference.

Dundee Wanderers are finding life difficult after their move up from Division 2 but were given a lift early on in their clash with Western Wildcats when Elliot Sandison scored.

But that lead evaporated before halftime as Wildcats scored four, taking advantage of some loose play by Wanderers.

Western further increased their lead in the second half, extending it to 7-1 before Sandison net ted his and Wanderers’ second.

The visitors had the last say as they took the final score to 8-2 with a lastminute penalty stroke.

Perthshire recorded their first victory, moving above opponents Falkirk in the process. They converted a 1-0 half-time lead into 3-0 by the end, Michal Czub scoring one and Stephen Dick twice.

Perthshire now have a place in the top half of Division 2 in their sights.

St Andrews University recorded their second successive win with a 4-3 victory at Gordonians.

St Andrews are now three points behind the Aberdeen team in fourth place but do have a game in hand.

Inverleith and Dunfermline Carnegie lead the way with three wins each.

Monarchs were too strong for Harris at Riverside and lead the third division on goal difference over Granite City Wanderers.

Inverleith II enjoyed a comfortable 6-0 win over Menzieshill II, having lost their first two games to the teams second and third in Regional Division 1.

Menzieshill II are still ahead of the Inverleith team on goal difference but it will take better results than this for them to move up the table.

Grange expected a difficult opening tie in the EuroHockey League in Barcelona and so it proved, with the Scottish outfit losing 5-0 to Three Rock Rovers from Ireland.

Grange then crashed in the resultant ranking match against Belgian side Beerschot, losing 7-1.
