A man was taken to hospital after a lorry overturned on one of Perthshire’s busiest routes yesterday morning.

Police and paramedics were called after the incident on the A9 Perth to Inverness road near Bankfoot at about 9.30am.

Drivers were told to avoid the area, with both northbound and southbound lanes initially closed due to the overturned HGV.

A second vehicle is believed to have been involved in the incident.

A man, said to be the lorry driver, was injured and taken to Ninewells Hospital. His injuries are not believed to be lifethreatening.

The incident also caused an oil spill on the road which meant further delays as the surface was cleaned.

Traffic was left at a standstill in both directions as a result.

A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 9.30am today to attend an incident on the A9 at Bankfoot. We dispatched one ambulance to the scene and transported one male patient to Ninewells.”

A police spokesman reported: “We were called around 9.30am to a two-vehicle collision on the A9 near Bankfoot.

“One was a lorry. Road was closed but re-opened at 10.30am. One man with injuries. Scottish Ambulance service in attendance.”

As of about 11am one southbound lane had been reopened on the A9 but the route remained affected for hours afterwards.

Traffic Scotland had earlier described the incident as a “serious RTC (road traffic collision)”.

The organisation added: “A9 is closed both ways north of Bankfoot due to a serious RTC. Traffic is at a stand both ways.”

It was one of two accidents on the Perth and Kinross length of the A9 yesterday.

Emergency services were also called to a one-vehicle crash near Dunning shortly before 4pm.

Fire crews from Auchterarder and Perth joined police and ambulance teams at the scene. Two people were taken to hospital.

The road was also partially blocked farther north near Aviemore, due to a crash around 7.40am. One man was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness for treatment.

Police Scotland said a slip road was closed and diversions were put in place.

The road was closed at 9.30am but it re-opened at 10.30am. POLICE SPOKESMAN
