Boss confirms injured Vaughan to see knee specialist on Monday

-

John McGlynn expects luckless Lewis Vaughan to undergo surgery at the end of this month following his third devastating cruciate knee ligament injury.

The Raith Rovers boss has confirmed the 23-year-old will visit a specialist on Monday to analyse his progress since suffering the setback against Forfar on September 28.

Vaughan is unable to go under the knife until the swelling subsides and a degree of movement is restored.

However, McGlynn hopes that will happen within the next three weeks.

He said: “Lewis will need an operation but it’s a bit early to set a date for that.

“He is seeing a consultant on Monday but needs to get full movement in the joint before they can do the operation.

“That will be towards the end of the month and it’s just one of those situations where we need to wait.

“We sympathise with Lewis one million per cent that he needs to go through this whole process of getting the knee moving, getting the operation and then back to square one again.”

Vaughan only recently recovered from cruciate damage sustained in a January fixture against Brechin City and had scored twice in three outings.

He also suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in the second game of the 2015/16 campaign, which ruled him out for the remainder of the season.

However, he sought to put a brave face on what is likely to be a nine-month lay-off by tweeting: ‘Nothing I haven’t done before...I’ll be back.’

McGlynn added: “He’ll come in Mondays and Fridays and we’ll keep his spirits up. We’ll do everything we can for him.”
