How they fared

-

David Marshall – Waited almost 40 minutes to make his first meaningful save and parried Aleksandr Golovin’s shot to safety. But was unable to offer resistance as Scotland conceded four times in 27 second-half minutes. 5/10

Liam Palmer – Recalled for his second cap but suffered more misery. 5

Charlie Mulgrew – Held off by Artem Dzyuba as the giant striker netted twice. 5

Michael Devlin – Did reasonably well until Scotland capitulated, and almost gifted another goal to Dzyuba after losing the striker from a throw-in. 5

Andy Robertson – Caught out with a back-post cross for the third goal, the Liverpool leftback again found international football a major contrast to his club exploits. 5

John McGinn – Covered plenty of ground to close down the Russians in the first half. 6

John Fleck – Played a deep role and twice resorted to bringing down Golovin to halt his progress, but could not stem the tide or show much going forward. 5

Callum McGregor – Put in some good penalty-box blocks but was restricted in the opposition half. 6

Robert Snodgrass – A lack of pace and belief appeared to hinder him at two promising first-half openings, and was sloppy in possession at times. 5

Ryan Fraser – Struggled to contain the Russian left-back and had a largely frustrating night going forward. 5

Oliver Burke – Some decent lay-offs and promising runs with the ball, but decision-making and execution let him down at the crucial moment. 5
