ROCKTALK GIG GUIDE BY ANDREW WELSH

• A supergroup comprising cohorts of some of hard rock’s biggest names are tuning up for a Kinross gig.

Boasting a line-up that features Alice Cooper’s guitarist Ryan Roxie, former Slash’s Snakepit and Imperial Drag frontman Eric Dover, drummer Troy Farrell – of ex-Guns ’N’ Roses axeman Gilby Clarke’s band – and onetime Silent Rage bassist EJ Curse, The Lost Angels hit the Green Hotel on October 22 as part of a 10-date UK tour.

Originally formed in 2010, the four-piece was recently reactivated after a six-year break and founder Troy says it’s time to have some fun.

“Sometimes it’s like herding cats trying to put a band together,” he laughs.

“Alice Cooper’s been quite busy this year but it just so happened that Ryan hit me up in the early part of the year and he was itching to go out and do something a little different.

“He lives in Sweden but the stars and the planets seemed to align at the right time and we’ve just got back from Mexico where we did five shows with former Motley Crue frontman John Corabi on second guitar, so this has been a pretty busy year for our band that we kind of do for fun.”

Ex-White Lion sticksman Troy, 47, says touring with Lost Angels reminds him why he started playing music for a living. “We do it almost as much for the fun and the camaraderie as for the music. I’ve known all these guys for at least a decade – or more in some cases – and we have a musical brotherhood and outside of music we have that other brotherhood as well.”

Fans of those artists Lost Angels’ line-up have worked with can look forward to hearing past favourites in Kinross. “The goal’s to do stuff that people know us from,” adds Las Vegas-based Troy.

“We’re going to do some stuff that both Ryan and Eric were a part of, like Man Of The Year off The Eyes Of Alice Cooper album, and we do a little bit of I’m Eighteen.

“We’ll be doing some Snakepit and we’ve all played with Gilby Clarke so we’ll do one of his as an ode to him, and of course we’re still going to do the stuff that we love, like David Bowie and The Sweet.

“We’re doing Under Pressure and some Cheap Trick and AC/DC. We do Golden Earring’s Radar Love, which I know from my White Lion days, so we’re putting in all the hits and trying to put our fingers where we’re connected to them in other ways as well.”

Troy says the band’s live shows can veer into comedic territory at times. “Ryan’s a very funny guy and Eric’s quirky, so EJ and I just try and keep the train rolling in case the wheels fall off,” he quips.
