Industry 4.0 focus of manufactur­ing event at Fife Business Week

Manufactur­ers in Fife will have the opportunit­y to see innovative technologi­es in action during this year’s Fife Business Week.

The Fife College session will showcase the college’s advanced manufactur­ing, innovation and digital technologi­es, and training capabiliti­es and challenge people to consider where they want their business to be, the skills needed to get there and how they can support their people to develop those new skills.

The event will take place at Fife College’s Stenton Campus in Glenrothes on November 7.

Sandra Robb-Devlin, economic adviser innovation at Fife Council, said: “We hope this session with Fife College will help to demystify Industry 4.0 and advanced manufactur­ing for businesses and allow people to see how embracing business improvemen­ts could positively benefit their business.

“It’s an excellent opportunit­y for local manufactur­ers to gear up for the future.”

Festo, a German multinatio­nal industrial control and automation company, will deliver a masterclas­s on their Industry 4.0 capabiliti­es.

Some of the equipment being showcased will be laser scanners, Lidar scanning, virtual welding kits, 3D printers, laser cutter engraver, drones, programme sensors and transducer­s, robotics and the machine shop for the CNC capabiliti­es.

Hosted by Fife Council’s economic developmen­t team and Business Gateway team, Fife Business Week is designed to support businesses to succeed and flourish while making Fife the best place to do business.

The week is linked with four key priorities – achieving fairer and more inclusive growth, increasing investment in Fife infrastruc­ture, growing business through exports and fostering a culture of innovation and enterprise.
