Bumper bag nets top spot at Menteith

Keith Renton of Newton St Boswells AC is the 23rd and 2019 Scottish Club Champion of Champions.

Joiner and builder Keith was fishing against the other best-placed anglers in the championsh­ip heats, and netted over 20 fish, mostly from the Heronry at Lake of Menteith.

In second place was Scott Aitken of Tartan Tyers with 13 and in third place was Neil Barrett of Gateside AC with 11.

RESCOBIE LOCH is now into the last few weeks of the season but there are still plenty of fish being caught and good bags of four this week were taken by Alan Taylor, 12lb; Lee Anderson, 11lb and Allan Wood, Don Paton and George Smith, 10lb 8oz.

The last competitio­n of the year will take place on Sunday when the club competes for the Bill Pattie Cup, postponed from September.

Rain and high winds were fairly common at FORBES OF KINGENNIE, but there was still some excellent fishing.

On the Boathouse Pool buzzers, dries and small lures were the best options.

Steve Martin fished the “washing line” method with a Fab on the point and two buzzers to catch/ release nine fish.

Mr Klemsinsky took four fish for 9lb. On Saturday, Kingennie were host to North Field AC on the Burnside Pool and the outing produced 21 fish for 50lbs.

Other anglers also did well with Jock Leslie taking 19 fish on dries, the best being a fine rainbow estimated at 11lb+.

Bruce Thomson released 10 fish (best estimated at 10lbs); Grant Burnett returned seven fish (best 10lbs+) and Terry Hogg also released seven, with the best being 8lbs. Dries, buzzers and Diawl bachs were the better choices.

The Bankside Pool has plenty of fish showing but with gin-clear water they are somewhat challengin­g to catch. Mike Galpin released eight, taken on crunchers and buzzers, whilst Nick Soave took three fish for a total of 12lbs. On Monday the Woodside Pool (any legal method) produced 10 fish for a combined weight of 23lb.

Due to the poor weather the individual numbers visiting FRANDY FISHERY was on the low side last week but Bobby Paterson from Stirling caught and released five and Raymond Pirrie from Tullibody also had five on catch and release.

A good number of angling clubs were out with the Phoenix A/C keeping two fish weighing 4lb 8oz, Cowdenbeat­h A/C took eight fish for 15lb 10oz and Ayr Travellers A/C kept three fish weighing 6lb and released a further nine. Perth Ex-Servicemen’s A/C kept eight fish weighing 17lb 15oz and the Bohemian A/C took three fish for 7lb. All areas fished well with the hot head damsel being the top catching pattern.

ORCHILL TROUT FISHERY had another good week.

William Docherty from Alloa had two fish for 9lb, best 6lb, on a yellow dancer, D Conlan (Alloa) two fish for 7lbs on an Ally McCoist and the yellow dancer, Colin Clement (Tyndrum) four fish weighing 12lbs on a green buzzer and J Dickson from Arbroath used hoppers to catch four fish for 10lbs 8oz. Donald Blyth from Doune had a brace for 7lbs 8oz on a cat, Gerry Kane (Cumbernaul­d) four fish for 10lbs on dries, Boo Haughton (Linden AC) took four fish for 13lbs, the best 5lbs on a gold cat and Barney Robertson from the Linden AC had four for 11lbs 8oz on a goldie and Pinkie.

John Wright (Linden AC) took three fish for 10lbs 12oz on a black lure, Gordon Porter (Linden AC) had three fish for 9lbs Black Fritz and R Ainslie from Coventry took two fish for 5lbs on dry flies.
