Road safety concern after two crashes in a day on danger route

Appeal for information on collision that left three hospitalised

Police are appealing for information after a crash on a Mearns danger road that left two children and a woman in hospital with serious injuries.

The accident was one of two on the A92 Montrose to Stonehaven road in the space of 24 hours.

Two children aged four and six and a 34-year-old woman are being treated in hospital in Aberdeen, after their Honda CR-V was in a collision with a black Honda Accord near Mill of Uras at about 12.45pm on Tuesday.

A 30-year-old man and a seven-yearold girl suffered minor injuries and were discharged from hospital on Tuesday night.

The A92 was closed for around seven hours as police investigated the incident.

Constable Matthew Lawson, of Police Scotland’s road policing unit, said: “Inquiries into the collision are ongoing and I would urge anyone who saw either vehicle prior to the collision, or who witnessed the collision, and has not already spoken to police to contact us.”

The A92 was closed again yesterday morning following a two-vehicle crash near Gourdon.

Emergency services were called to an accident involving a Ford Transit van and Citroen car between St Cyrus and Inverbervie, shortly after 7.30am.

The road was shut in both directions between the junctions with the B9120 and the B967. A police spokesman said it reopened at 9.20am and added there were no serious injuries.

George Carr, Aberdeenshire Conservative councillor for the Mearns, said concerns about road safety and driver behaviour on the road between Montrose and Stonehaven had been raised by community councils for years.

He said: “My thoughts go out to all those involved in both incidents, their relatives and friends. I urge people to take care on that stretch of road.

“It is terrible – there hasn’t been one (a collision) for a while and it is tragic there were two in the space of one day.

“Concerns about road safety on the A92 have been raised at the five coastal community councils – Catterline, Gourdon, Inverbervie, Johnshaven and St Cyrus.”
