Opportunity for Menzieshill to establish credentials

-

Grove Menzieshill have much to do in terms of establishing themselves as potential league winners this season.

The last couple of games have been poor by their own standards but the visit of Clydesdale tomorrow holds out the prospect of a significant revival in form.

Clydesdale are five points behind Menzieshill with only four games played, but their quality should not be taken too lightly.

Western Wildcats lead the way and should add three more points against Edinburgh University, even though the students have won three games to date.

But it is Grange who should recover their anticipated place at the top of the Premiership with likely victories over Dundee Wanderers and their catch-up game on Sunday against Uddingston.

For Wanderers, the crucial game will not be that against Grange tomorrow, but rather their catch-up game against Kelburne on Sunday.

Both Wanderers and Kelburne have only one point to their credit and the Dundee team must make home advantage count.

Wanderers will be encouraged in only losing to Edinburgh University 5-4 last Saturday, but they must go a stage better to have any chance of moving out of the bottom two.

St Andrews University had the most difficult time last weekend, losing to second division leaders Inverleith but then defeating second-placed Carnegie in the Scottish Cup.

They meet the Dunfermline team again tomorrow and might find them more focused, with promotion a distinct possibility.

Perthshire are unlikely to produce a similar result to last weekend’s 12-0 win over Aberdeen Grammar when they face second division leaders Inverleith.

However, with goalscorers of the quality of Stephen Dick and the Robertsons in their ranks, it may be more a question of whether their defence can hold out.

There is little to choose between four of the six teams in division 3, with Monarchs still able to challenge at the top.

For this, victory over similarly placed Aberdeen University is a must.

Harris are still seeking their first point, and home advantage over Highland may just keep them in the contest.

A win is probably asking too much, but there may be signs that confidence in the Harris ranks could be increasing.
