Miller not only possible thorn in Dark Blues’ side

- NEIL ROBERTSON

There is a familiar face who will be a big threat to Dundee in the Partick ranks tomorrow but Dens boss James McPake admits he is wary of more than just Kenny Miller.

The 39-year-old striker was with Dundee last season and has already hit the back of the net seven times for the Jags in this campaign.

However, with the Glasgow outfit now managed by Ian McCall, McPake has warned his players that Thistle will come to Dens determined to take the game to the Dark Blues – just as his counterpart’s former side Ayr United did back in August.

The Dens boss admitted that while Miller is very much in the veteran stage of his career, he is undoubtedly still a top pro.

McPake said: “To be playing at his age shows that. But they have other dangerous players as well.

“Him (McCall) going in there has changed things a bit. They got a great result up in Inverness which as everybody knows is a tough place to go but then they were beaten by Queen of the South.

“That just shows again the inconsistency of this league and the teams in it.

“But they will be good and come with a decent support.

“If they come here and play the way his Ayr team did, they will have a go on Saturday.”

Meanwhile former Dundee striker Matty Henvey is determined not to become a forgotten footballer despite not being able to find a club since leaving Dens Park in May.

The 19-year-old looked set to become a first team player in Dark Blue when he grabbed his first senior goal when he came on as a substitute in a 2-1 Premiership success at Hamilton in January 2018.

Unfortunately an injury picked up in the same game ended that season for Henvey and he was unable to break back into the first team despite going to Cowdenbeath on loan.

The attacker remains without a club but is determined to get back into the game.

He said: “It has been a frustrating time for me.

“I have not been able to get fixed up again, but I remain confident that I will get something and get playing again.

“I am training on my own and I am ready to go into a club and start again.

“I am determined that I will not become forgotten about.”
