Weary Weir bemoans Loons’ inconsistency

-

Forfar manager Jim Weir has grown weary of his Loons losing by one goal and he wants to put that right by clinching a second win of the season over Airdrie when the sides meet at Station Park.

Weir explained: “We travelled down to an East Fife side who are going well last weekend and lost 1-0.

“We did not play well in the first half and lost a poor goal early on, but we were much better after the break.

“That inconsistency in performance levels has happened too often. We have lost four league games by one goal and I believe if we had played well for the full 90 minutes as opposed to just one half then we would have turned some of those games into draws or even better.

“The absence of Dale Hilson and Andy Jackson has hurt us in terms of creativity and scoring goals but we have not been that far off in too many games. If we can hit a good level of performance and stay there, then we can beat Airdrie.

“We beat them on the opening day of the season, and it would be great to get another win and pull closer to them in the table.”

The Diamonds, who went through a transformation in the summer which included the creation of a hybrid model of full and part-time players, have not yet set the heather alight – but Weir reckons their fifth-place position is hiding an important statistic.

Weir said: “Like us, Airdrie have not taken the points expected in the first quarter of games. However, when you look at their away form they have done very well. They have won three games out of four away and that tells me they enjoy going on the road.

“Despite a few disappointments at home they will come here confident of getting a result because of that away form.”

Scott Robertson is expected to return after a knock and Hilson could be involved after an earlier-thanexpected return to training – but Murray Mackintosh and Jackson continue to be absent.
