Railway line fatality leads to transport chaos in Perthshire.

Services cancelled and delayed after person hit by train between Dunblane and Stirling

Services to Tayside were cancelled yesterday morning when a person died after being struck by a train on a railway line.

Emergency services were called to the scene following the tragedy, which happened at about 10.10am between Dunblane and Stirling.

Police are not treating the incident as suspicious.

The line was closed for more than an hour between the two stations, with services hit by cancellati­ons, delays and revisions.

The line had already been affected around Perth after overnight engineerin­g works in the city station were delayed.

A broken down train further north, at Stonehaven in the late morning, caused further problems for about an hour.

A British Transport Police spokeswoma­n said: “Officers were called to the line in Stirling at 10.12am this morning following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended however sadly a person has been pronounced dead at the scene.

“Officers are now working to identify them and inform their family.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the procurator fiscal.”

ScotRail posted: “Unfortunat­ely we have had reports of a person being struck by a train between Dunblane and Stirling, because of this services will be disrupted.

“We are working closely with emergency services and will update you once we receive more informatio­n from our staff on the ground.”

At about 11.30am the firm added: “The emergency services have declared it safe to run our trains between StirlingDu­nblane.

“We are expecting heavy delays and services out of position on this line. We are working hard to get services back on schedule.”

Ticket acceptance was put in place on local bus routes.

Journeys between Aberdeen and Glasgow were affected.

The following trains were cancelled due to the incident: the 11.04am Edinburgh to Glasgow, the 11.32am Edinburgh to Aberdeen, the 11.39am Glasgow to Edinburgh, the 12.27pm Glasgow Queen Street to Edinburgh and the 1.35pm Edinburgh to Glasgow.
