Chainsaw accident sidelines Mullen

-

A gruesome chainsaw accident has ruled Cowdenbeath’s topscorer Fraser Mullen out of action for the foreseeable future.

The left-back, who has found the net five times for the Blue Brazil, got his sleeve caught in the teeth of the machine as he was cutting logs for a wood-burning stove, severing tendons in his left arm.

The operation was successful but no timescale has been put on Mullen’s return to the football pitch. He has been signed off work for six weeks.

Manager Gary Bollan said: “Fraser suffered the injury a week past Sunday, but he has undergone surgery and hopefully he will be back playing in December.”

Meanwhile, Cowdenbeath head to Stirling Albion tonight and Bollan is hoping the Fifers return to the form they have shown in League Two as opposed to the form shown in the Scottish Cup.

Bollan’s side registered six successive wins in the league but were brought down to earth after a 3-0 cup thumping from Broxburn in Saturday’s replay.

Bollan said: “We never performed at all and we suffered the consequences. It was painful to watch, absolutely painful, and I thought that after drawing the first meeting 1-1 we would have been on the front foot on Saturday, however we were not. To be honest I never saw two such bad performances coming.

“Hopefully the return to league football will get us going again. We have worked our way up to second place and it is all about keeping us up there challenging now.”

Bollan added: “Saturday was really disappointing and there is a lot to be said about going over it to make sure that everyone involved has learned their lesson however we cannot take our eye off the ball. We are getting back to action quickly and hopefully that will be a good thing.

“If we can win this game, and it will not be easy as Stirling are a better side than their league table would indicate, and win again on Saturday against Cove, we could be top of the league.”
