Two Perth and Kinross-based groups have been presented with awards in recognition of their environmental projects.

Perth Station Garden Club and Luncarty and Redgorton in Bloom were honoured at a ceremony organised by the environmental charity, Keep Scotland Beautiful.

More than 160 groups from across Scotland were praised for their commitment to improving their local neighbourhoods at the event in Stirling.

Community initiatives such as school wildlife clubs, adopting areas of derelict land, and allotments were all celebrated at the It’s Your Neighbourhood awards.

The Luncarty and Redgorton group put plants and flowers around Luncarty while the Perth club created a biodiversity garden at Perth station.

Communities and Place Manager at Keep Scotland Beautiful, Katie Murray said: “Every It’s Your Neighbourhood participant deserves this recognition for their hard work and determination to improve their own community.

“By volunteering their own time, the 2019 groups have managed to support hundreds of environmental initiatives across Scotland.”

She added: “I hope that their enthusiasm inspires many more people to take part in helping to improve their local community in 2020.”

The It’s Your Neighbourhood initiative is run by Keep Scotland Beautiful in partnership with the Royal Horticultural Society.

It is not competitive. Instead the emphasis is on community participation and celebrating the individual merits of each group.
