A 29-year-old man has died after being struck by a car in an early morning tragedy in Fife at the weekend.

The man, who had been walking on the A985 between Rosyth and Limekilns, was hit by a westbound BMW two series at around 4.15am yesterday.

Police and an ambulance attended but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

His identity has not been released. Police said the 23-year-old driver of the BMW was uninjured.

Officers have appealed for witnesses and for any dash cam footage that would assist with their investigation into the circumstances of the accident.

The road, the main route between west Fife and the Kincardine Bridge, was closed for around eight hours after the incident as inquiries got under way and diversions were put in place. It reopened early in the afternoon. Sergeant Stephen Quinn from Fife’s road policing unit said: “Our investigation is continuing into this road crash and I would appeal to any witnesses, or anyone with information that may assist our inquiries to contact us.

“I would also appeal to anyone driving on the A985 road around the time of the crash who has dash cam footage to come forward, as they may hold detail that will help our investigation.

“Anyone with information should contact Fife road policing unit through 101, quoting reference number 0956 of November 3 2019.”

It was the fifth serious accident on the road in fewer than seven months.

In April, an 84-year-old man died nine days after being airlifted to hospital following a crash near High Valleyfield.

Two months later, six people were taken to hospital after a collision between a car and a minibus, while in July a baby and two children were among five people taken to hospital after a collision between a car and a van on the same stretch of the road.

In September, an 18-year-old man was critically injured in a two-car crash on the outskirts of High Valleyfield.
