LEITCH WINS DUNDEE EVENT Jack Leitch (Edinburgh University) claimed the men’s title at the Scottish Student Sport CrossCount­ry Championsh­ips at Camperdown Park, hosted by Dundee University Cross-Country Club. The Worthing athlete clocked 31 minutes and 45 seconds for the tough 10km course, taking in some of Camperdown’s testing climbs. Fife AC athlete Kevin Wood (St Andrews) was second – 22 seconds adrift – with Hamish Hickey (Stirling) three seconds back in third. Queen Margaret’s Holly Little won the women’s title timed at 25 minutes 27 seconds for the 8km course. Edinburgh University retained both men’s and women’s team titles. Over 50 veteran Eddie Torrie (Perth Road Runners) headed the younger opposition by winning the Auchterard­er Running Festival 10km Race from the Gleneagles Arena at Gleneagles Hotel.

Torrie clocked 38 minutes 01 seconds, while women’s winner Jade Greenshiel­ds (Five Star Active) took the finish in 42.28. Twenty-four hours later Kevin Riddell (Perth RR) won a rain-soaked half marathon in 82 minutes 43 seconds while Louise Tyler (Unatt veteran) took the female honours in 89.19.

The Scottish 4km Cross-Country Championsh­ips (plus junior age group races) take place at Kirkcaldy High School this Saturday, starting with the U15 girls 2km at noon. Olympians Callum Hawkins and Andrew Butchart have entered the men’s 4km while Lynsey Sharp is among the women’s entries.

2017 winner Geoffrey Kamworor (Kenya) won the 2019 New York City Marathon, pulling away from a group of five over the final two miles.

A 4.27 mile at 25 miles took Kamworor to the 26.2-mile finish line in Central Park timed at 2 hours 08 minutes 13 seconds. Albert Korir (Kenya) was second in 2:08.36. Marathon debutant Joyciline Jepkosgei put in a 5:23 mile at the 22mile point to pull away from Kenyan colleague and four-time winner Mary Keitany and take the female title in two hours, 22 minutes and 38 seconds, seven seconds down on the 2003 course record.
