Austin winner keeps Hearts clear at top

-

Kelty Hearts remain two points clear of secondplaced Bonnyrigg Rose in the Lowland League after both sides won at the weekend.

Leading scorer in the league Nathan Austin netted the only goal of the game on 35 minutes against East Kilbride at The K Park to secure all three points for Barry Ferguson’s men, whose cause was helped by the sending off of the home side’s Craig Reid just after Hearts took the lead.

Bonnyrigg kept up the pressure with an emphatic 5-1 win over University of Stirling while thirdplaced East Stirling beat Cumbernauld Colts 3-1 and BSC Glasgow in fourth beat Gretna 2008 4-1.

Dundonald Bluebell missed the chance to go above Broxburn Athletic and into the top five of the East of Scotland League Premier League as they went down 2-1 at Carmuirs Park against Camelon.

Bluebell took the lead on 12 minutes through Chris Gay only for Alan Docherty to equalise. The second half was less than a minute old when Jason Deans scored what proved to be the Mariners’ winner.

Jeanfield Swifts would have gone into the top half of the table with a win at New Countess Park against Dunbar United and it looked good at halftime, with Ross Gunnion’s side leading through Chris McLeish goal.

The home side levelled on the hour mark through Lloyd Fiddler before breaking Swifts’ hearts with the winner in the last minute from Fraser McLaren.

Hill of Beath were the only local side to win in the Premier as they comfortably took care of Musselburgh Athletic at Kiers Park.

Daniel Watt powered a header home on 22 minutes and repeated the trick on the hour mark. AJake Mitchell header made it 3-0.

Crossgates Primrose remain in 10th place in the Premier Division after they went down 4-1 at Penicuik.

The home side took the lead on 40 minutes through Paul Tansey but Scott Lawrie sent Primrose in at the break level with a great free-kick.

The second half was all Penicuik and Liam O’Donnell put them in front on 69 minutes and Tansey made it 3-1 on 77 minutes before substitute Lumbert Kateleza added the fourth with five minutes left.

Only two First Division games involving local clubs survived the weather at Glenrothes and Stirling University.

Glens hosted Conference A leaders Leith Athletic with the game also being the first for the new management team of Kevin Smith and John Martin.

Fionn McLeod Kay opened the scoring for Glenrothes but the visitors levelled just before the break. Both sides had chances after the break but it was Glens who got the winner in added time through Russell.

Oakley United continued their impressive run as they came from behind to beat Stirling University 3-1.

The students led 1-0 at the beak but goals in the second half from Dylan McGowan (52), Craig Martin (60) and a Stuart Love penalty (89) saw the Fife side come out on top.
