Lochee United clip Hermes’ wings to earn place in draw

SCOTTISH JUNIOR CUP: Dundee outfit come from behind against visitors

- MARK JOHNSON

Lochee United’s Macron Scottish Junior Cup tie with Aberdeen side Hermes was delayed by United’s Scottish Cup replay but it made no difference to the Dundee side as George Shields’ men came from behind to win 3-1 and book a place in Wednesday’s fourth-round draw.

The visitors took the lead on 20 minutes when Connor Hunter headed home a Craig Macklin free-kick.

Hermes were reduced to 10 men on the half hour when David Stevenson was shown a yellow card for simulation

– his second card of the game, so he left the field.

Eight minutes later Alan Tulleth marked his first start for 14 months after knee surgery by crashing a Ross McDonald cross in to the roof of the net.

If the first half had been tight, the second half was one-way traffic and it was no surprise when Lochee went in front on 64 minutes. Grant Lawson won the ball before Dougie Cameron set Tulleth free and his cross was turned home by Danny Cavanagh.

Last season’s semi-finalists put the tie to bed on 78 minutes when Logan Davie escaped up the right and his cross was converted by substitute Reece Ritchie

Last weekend’s third-round draw in the North East saw Scone Thistle go into the replay at Farquharson Park as favourites against Aberdeen East End, and when Darren Gray put Sean Whitworth’s side in front after just six minutes it was the perfect start.

However, the visitors had other ideas and were level at the break after a deflected shot from Lee McKenzie ended in the back of the net.

With no further goals in the second half it was on to penalties and, unfortunately for Scone, East End keeper Zac Ellis was in great form. He pulled off two brilliant saves that helped his side win the shoot-out 4-2 and put the Perth side out of the competition.
