A fundraiser launched to support the family of a Dundee mum struck down with a brain haemorrhage in America has accumulated more than £7,000 in just two days.

June Adams was on holiday with friends in Detroit when she was rushed to hospital for emergency brain surgery after suffering from a subarachnoid haemorrhage.

Her children George, Scott and Ashley have flown overseas to be by their mother’s bedside.

A fundraiser set up to support them has raised £7,473 in two days.

Daughter-in-law Jillian Adams, who is married to June’s son George, set up the crowdfunding page to help the children pay for their accommodation and travel fees while their mother remains in hospital, a week after she fell ill last Monday.

Jillian had been hoping to raise £5,000 when the GoFundMe page was set up two days ago, however the target had been smashed in under 24 hours.

Jillian said she has been

“To raise this incredible amount of money in less than 24 hours is just amazing. JILLIAN ADAMS

“overwhelmed” at the support, after almost 200 people donated to help the family.

Writing on the GoFundMe page, she said: “Sadly Monday October 28, our mother June Adams, while on holiday in Detroit with friends, suffered a subarachnoid haemorrhage and needed emergency brain surgery.

“We are trying to raise funds to help support her three children – George, Scott and Ashley – who have travelled from the UK to be there at her bedside to support their mother through this traumatic time.

“Anyone who has travelled to the USA can appreciate how expensive flights, hotels, etc are.

“We would like to raise money to help support the family with their costs while they are going through this difficult time.”

After the crowdfunder raised more than £6,500 in just 24 hours, Jillian added: “I am totally overwhelmed with the donations. To raise this incredible amount of money in less than 24 hours is just amazing.”

Hundreds of people have taken to the fundraising page to offer messages of support to the mother-of -three and her family.

Sue Fisher, who met June on her American trip, wrote: “My heart goes out to June and her family at this difficult time.

“I met June and her friends at Detroit on this trip.

“She is a lovely lady and I’m praying she will recover soon.”
