Grove blow three-goal lead – but remain close to leaders

-

Grove Menzieshill are still the nearest challengers to Grange at the top of the Premiership despite letting a three-goal lead slip away against Edinburgh University.

Keir Robb and Luke Cranney gave Menzieshill a two-goal lead in the first quarter and Albert Rowling added a third from an excellent flick from the top of the circle in the second quarter, but Edinburgh responded and narrowed the gap to 3-2 on the stroke of half-time.

The visitors tied the score at 3-3 and shortly before the end of the third quarter took the lead, these last three goals emanating from slack defensive play by Menzieshill.

The Dundee outfit got their act together in the latter stages and snatched a late equaliser through Cyrille Varghese.

Menzieshill were fortunate that Grange also dropped two points in their 2-2 draw with Western Wildcats.

Dundee Wanderers will be disappointed in having scored four goals only to come away from Hillhead with only a point.

Wanderers led 2-0 with a goal apiece from Elliott Sandison and Lewis Pyke but were pegged back to 2-2.

Hillhead then took the lead only for Robbie Alexander to equalise.

Hillhead scored again and looked set to take all three points until Bobby Ralph’s late equaliser gave Wanderers a point.

Wanderers now trail Hillhead and Watsonians by four points.

Inverleith and Dunfermline Carnegie still lead the way in Division 2 with maximum points from seven games.

Perthshire moved up to fourth with an excellent 7-4 win over Stepps.

Their usual goalscorers did the damage, with Stephen Dick scoring four, Michael Robertson two and Neil Robertson one.

St Andrews University’s 2-2 draw with Erskine Stewart’s Melville may not have been a surprise as both are fairly well placed in mid-table.

Monarchs still lead the way in Division 3 after beating Granite City Wanderers 4-3.

Strathclyde University are in hot pursuit after their 13-1 win over Harris and are three points behind Monarchs with three games in hand.

Menzieshill II are in the relegation zone in Central Division 1. Having lost 6-0 to Clydesdale II they have only three points, as do Grange III, but the Dundee team have two games in hand over strugglers Grange III and Kelburne II.
