McGlynn stresses need to stay disciplined

-

John McGlynn has told his Raith Rovers side their indiscipline is ‘unacceptable’ – but will not hit them in the pocket – after Iain Davidson was red-carded at the weekend for dissent.

The Stark’s Park side lost top spot in League One with their 2-0 defeat at Peterhead, which brought to an end an eight-match unbeaten run.

Any hope of a late comeback slipped away when experienced defender Davidson was given his marching orders by referee Gavin Ross 11 minutes from time for an ill-tempered outburst.

Michael Miller, Daniel Armstrong, Brad Spencer and Michael Miller were also all cautioned during a disappointing display from Rovers.

And, although he will refuse any temptation to fine his players, McGlynn insists they cannot afford to lose their heads in the heat of battle.

The Kirkcaldy manager said: “We lost our discipline. Referees are not going to accept you talking to them like that.

“There’s no need for it, whatsoever, and it’s not going to be accepted.

“I, personally, never fine any player, I’ve never, ever done it, but I told them they went too far.

“There were three players booked in the first half and, as far as I could see, they were all for talking to the referee.

“Then, having said what I said at halftime regarding that, Iain has got the red mist – and it’s not acceptable.”

He added to RaithTV: “I’m not happy with that. My teams are always disciplined teams.

“And when I look at it, it’s always when we’re having a difficult period in a game. It’s all very well not liking getting beat but you’ve got to keep your discipline.

“It doesn’t help anyone by losing your discipline because you lose your concentration on the game.

“We need to be better than that.”
