Top five all looking to keep bragging rights

-

For the first time in three weeks, today’s Premiership clashes throw up the prospect that all five teams looking to make the play-offs will advance their claims.

Clydesdale Western are expected to maintain their three-point advantage at the head of the field, Edinburgh University, Watsonians and MJV Wanderers will continue to jockey for positions two to four on goal difference while fifthplaced Wildcats will be lying in wait to pounce on any unforeseen slip-ups.

Local interest focuses on Dalnacraig where Wanderers host Grove Menzieshill in the first Dundee derby of the season.

The visitors go into this afternoon’s head-to-head trailing their city rivals by six points and having been badly turned over in their last two outings, Wanderers are certain to come out firing on all cylinders to maintain their bragging rights.

The good news for Grove is that they should maintain station in sixth as GHK and Hillhead will also be in line of fire of the league’s big guns.

St Andrews University could do with a win to release early relegation pressure.

However, that is an unlikely scenario even with ground advantage over the Division 2 leaders from Uddingston.

Hopes of improvement lie with tomorrow’s encounter against Kelburne.

Grove IIs fortunes are equally concerning, with prospects of defeat to Championship table toppers Edinburgh Uni II more than likely.

Perthshire front up against Erskine Stewarts Melville and Stirling Wanderers, the top two sides in Championship 2.

St Andrews II are also playing catch-up with their counterparts from Cala and Kelburne visiting Fife this weekend.
