Grove face testing clash at DISC against Western

-

Grove Menzieshill need to get back on track – and quickly – if they are to slow the progress of Western Wildcats at DISC and remain serious challengers, probably not for the Premiership title, but at least for second place above Western.

Dundee Wanderers are still seeking their first win and might just be able to pull that off, even though they have to travel to face Watsonians.

The Edinburgh team are only four points better off than Wanderers with two wins against Wanderers’ two draws, both having lost six matches.

With only one team to be relegated and one to have a relegation play-off, it would not take much for Wanderers to extricate themselves from their difficult situation.

Top match in division 2 is the clash of the top two, Dunfermline Carnegie and Inverleith.

The three-point difference is due to Inverleith’s surprise defeat at Gordonians, so they will be keen to make amends against the new leaders.

Perthshire are doing well, if somewhat inconsistently so, in fourth place.

A win over third-placed Gordonians will bring them to within a point of the Aberdeen side.

Four local teams are in the last 16 of the Scottish Cup tomorrow.

Dundee Wanderers can put their losing league streak behind them when they entertain second division St Andrews University at Dalnacraig.

Menzieshill will surely be too good for third division Granite City Wanderers, and Perthshire should also progress against Highland, provided that they do not take the third division side lightly.

There are no local teams left in the District Cup but Perthshire II and Madras might both progress in the District Plate, with home advantage against Fjordhus Reivers and Peebles.

Travel at this level of competition can often affect the quality of the team that a club can field.

St Andrews University II and Wanderers II both have a bye to the quarter-finals on March 8.
