Cownie confident for Stars’ biggest game of season

- Jordan Cownie: seeking to make history.

Dundee Stars forward Jordan Cownie is hoping that he and his team-mates can make history tomorrow in what he believes is the biggest game of the season.

Stars take on Glasgow Clan in the first leg of the Challenge Cup quarter-finals and the Dundonian insists that they are confident of taking their first step towards the next round.

Cownie said: “We are feeling really confident to be honest. That’s us gone three on the bounce now and we finally put that slump we were in behind us.

“Now we are really getting excited about coming to the rink every day and I think we match-up well with Glasgow, so the guys are confident going into the game.”

Dundee have qualified for the last-eight of the Challenge Cup for the past seven seasons but have never made it to the semifinals.

The 24-year-old, though, believes this could be their year.

He added: “Dundee have never made the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup, so to do that and make some history with the club would be huge, but I also think we’re not just looking to this game – we’re looking to go the whole way.

“We think we have a really good chance of going far in this competition, if not going all the way.

“So I think if we come out strong on Friday then it will be a great start.”

Cownie also thinks that the tie will attract a big crowd from both sides as it is their biggest fixture so far this year.

He said: “I think it is going to be a sold-out barn.

“I know Glasgow always bring a lot and so do we, so it is a huge game for both teams.

“It’s probably the biggest of the season so far and I am sure both sets of fans will come out in good numbers and it will be a good game.”

Tomorrow’s match at Dundee Ice Arena starts at 7.30pm.
